Volunteer We are a WWOOF host.

Over the years and working together, co-op members, local volunteers, visitors and wwoofers have made hay, built our polytunnels, greenhouse, raised beds, clay pizza oven, planted our orchards and developed our growing area. We try to make sure that whoever is out on the farm gets the chance to learn new skills and get stuck into whatever job needs doing that day. We often work hard, but try to make sure there’s fun and tea-breaks on the way.

Depending on the time of year there is a range of jobs you might be doing:

Spring is our busiest season. We’re getting the polytunnels planted and cropping; we’re sowing thousands of seeds and getting the growing areas ready for planting. This too, is the time for lambing, of turning the animals outside, and of cleaning their winter quarters.

Summer sees us weeding out in the growing area, planting out seedlings, watering, picking vegetables for deliveries. It’s also the time for moving the animals between the meadows, hay making and harvesting vegetables and picking and preserving fruit.

By the autumn we are concentrating on harvesting some of our main crops, planting out late crops, picking and preserving fruit ready for the winter. This is also a busy time preparing the indoor quarters for the livestock and getting the farm ready for the end of the season.

In the winter we focus on hedging, ditching, planting trees/hedges or orchard trees and general woodland management. This is also the time of year where we carry out repairs, tractor maintenance and make sure the farm is ready for the new growing season. But, inside the polytunnels, the growing continues, so there is always some weeding and soil preparation to get on with too…

If you come and work with us, expect:

  • to work for about six hours;
  • be prepared for all weathers - rain, wind, sun, mud and snow – sometimes all in one day;
  • wear sensible shoes and work clothes;
  • we provide lunch and hot drinks, but if you have any special dietary needs remember to tell us before you come.
