It's been a very good week for Greengrow.
In the space of a week the co-operative learned that the Big Lottery Fund's Local Food scheme has granted us over £13,000 to build a new irrigation reservoir and watering system, while Awards for All has funded our ‘Growing Futures’ project.
"This is a very exciting development for us", said Becky Taylor, Greengrow’s volunteer co-ordinator, "the work will provide on-the-job training for volunteers, which we will be able to support through funding further courses for them. We would encourage anyone interested to get in touch with us".
The grants will also allow the business to expand the range of fruit and vegetables it produces and extend the season for its increasingly popular veg box scheme. Keith Malcolm, the co-operative’s other key worker said, "this spring was the driest in 110 years, and the new rain-capture irrigation system will allow us to expand our vegetable production without increasing our carbon footprint".
