Key person(s) wanted to lead on vegetable and fruit growing at Berry Farm, a cooperatively-run, agroecological farm in East Suffolk.

Are you motivated by land justice; by producing delicious, nutritious, affordable food; sharing space with nature? If so, we might be the project for you!

Greengrow worker co-op has been producing chemical-free veg for over 15 years on our 20 acre site in NR34 8HR (greengrow.org.uk).

On an on-going basis, we are looking for new co-op member(s) or tenant growers(s) to take our established fruit and veg production forward into the future. The right person or people will take a lead on growing, sales and marketing. The land is in secure ownership with another co-operative, Common Ground.

We have around an acre of vegetable growing area, 3 large polytunnels and a large greenhouse, a surface water-fed irrigation system, 3 blocks of orchard, soft fruit, 25 local veg box customers and a track record of growing beans for sale through Hodmedods (hodmedod.co.uk). This area is within 8 acres enclosed by rabbit proof fencing; there is plenty of room for expansion.

Our soil fertility is managed through a rotational herbal ley system with mob-grazing cattle. We sell beef boxes twice a year from our Red Poll cattle. Winter bedding provides the basis for increasing amounts of fermented compost. This could support a move to a ‘no-dig’ approach.

We also have 6 acres of 20yo woodland that we are managing for wildlife and wood fuel. The farm works with the Country Trust, providing school visits for schools with little access to the countryside. We also have strong links with two community food projects, providing fresh vegetables and offering family visits to the farm.

We are looking for an experienced grower, or growers, with an understanding of co-operative working who has/have the drive, enthusiasm, and skills to ensure the veg business thrives going forward. We are committed to livelihood generation as a key aim; wages will be dependent on sales and there are volunteers available for field work and support.

Please contact us through richard@greengrow.org.uk with an expression of interest and CV at any time. We will be in touch within two weeks to arrange further conversations, online chats and visits.
